Set in beautiful landscaped grounds, with views across the river Wear and County Durham, and with hundreds of years of history, Lumley Castle provides a magical backdrop for couples to celebrate their wedding day with friends and family. Whilst the Bride and Groom and their guests can choose to stay in the individually designed castle bedchambers – providing unique accommodation and the perfect end to a perfect day.

We can cater for up to 80 guests for civil marriage ceremonies, and our state rooms can hold up to 132 guests for wedding receptions. We can also cater for more intimate weddings with special packages available for between 10 and 30 guests all at our castle.

A Wedding Reception at Lumley Castle Hotel is a magical experience. Everything will be planned to the finest detail and your Reception room perfectly staged to receive you as The Bride and Groom on your fairytale wedding day.

Our unique wedding reception state rooms can hold up to 132 guests for large wedding celebration or we can cater for more intimate wedding reception with special packages available for between 10 and 30 guests.

Our wedding venue offers a unique choice of packages, wedding reception rooms and civil ceremony rooms to create the fairytale castle wedding day for you. Whether you are planning an intimate wedding or larger wedding celebration, we are sure that our romantic wedding venue and historic castle backdrop will not fail to impress.

Civil Wedding Ceremony

Lumley Castle Hotel is a popular venue for civil wedding ceremonies. The hotel’s civil wedding licence means that you can both marry and celebrate your wedding reception in its historic castle surroundings.

Lumley Castle Hotel is licenced to hold civil wedding ceremony or wedding vow renewal ceremonies in The Scarbrough State Room and it is only a short walk to your chosen wedding reception venue once your civil ceremony is over.

The Civil Wedding Ceremony Package includes:

•Order of Service
•Chair covers
•Red Carpet
•Use of cd player
•Use of grounds for photographs
A maximum of 77 guests may attend the wedding ceremony plus two Registrars and a Wedding Supervisor – totally 80 people in the room. (Please note any photographers, videographers or musicians will be included in your guest numbers).

Intimate Wedding Reception & Ceremony

If you are hoping to celebrate your Wedding Day with a small number of guests, host an Intimate Wedding at Lumley Castle Hotel. Hold your civil wedding ceremony in The Scarbrough State Room and then continue your small exquisite celebrations in one of our sumptuously decorated Private Rooms.

The Gilt and The Sceptre have a unique ambience that will make your intimate reception simply magical for up to 14 guests, whilst larger groups of up to 30 guests can be accommodated in The Scarbrough or The Northumbria.

While your eyes delight in the elegant surroundings of our Black Knight restaurant or the sophisticated style of one of our private dining rooms, your tastebuds can savour the glorious flavours of Lumley’s fine food. Our exquisite array of dishes is prepared using only the finest and freshest ingredients and are cooked and presented to perfection.

Afternoon Tea
Enjoy Afternoon Tea in Lumley Castle Hotel’s Library Bar every day between 3pm and 5pm.

Afternoon Tea includes a choice of tea or coffee (including herbal tea selections), a cold sandwich, a homemade scone with cream, fresh strawberries and jam.

Lumley Castle Hotel has 73 bedrooms, including 14 new Courtyard bedrooms, each individually designed and decorated. We offer a choice of accommodation including; Courtyard and Castle single and double bedrooms as well as Four Poster Feature and Executive bedrooms. The King James Suite is an exclusive suite which includes a magnificent 20ft high four-poster Queen Anne Bed, and boasts its own lounge area, en-suite bathroom and Jacuzzi with views over the surrounding parkland.
