Culzean Castle Outside

Culzean is one of Scotland’s best loved Castles, offering something for everyone to enjoy. Situated on the South Ayrshire coast, just off the A719, Culzean Castle is located 12 miles south of Ayr and 4 miles west of Maybole. Culzean has a long tradition of welcoming local people, members of The National Trust for Scotland and holiday makers from all around the world. During the Summer Season, the Castle, gardens, Visitor Centre, shops and restaurants are open daily from Wednesday 1 April to Sunday 1 November 2009 (inclusive) each year.

During the Winter season our Visitor Centre Shops and Restaurant are open each Saturday and Sunday (with the exception of the Christmas and New Year period) from 11.00am until 4.00pm. However, please see ‘Events at Culzean’ for further details.

Castle Weddings

The Ultimate Experience

Adam’s mastery of form in his radical adaptation of this Castle (originally dating from 1590) has created a grand, impossibly romantic backdrop for modern events. Set in nearly 600 acres of beautiful countryside with woodland walks, inviting sandy beaches, terraced gardens and charming follies, this is a unique and inspirational setting for entertaining guests.

Grand and prestigious or intimate and relaxed – the options at Culzean are endless.

The breathtakingly beautiful red Circular Saloon, with views towards the Isle of Arran, can seat 70 guests for a ceremony or concert, followed by dinner in the surprisingly intimate State Dining Room. For a larger event, the Home Farm Restaurant can accommodate up to 100 guests for a banquet and ceilidh.

This air of exclusivity extends to the six-bedroomed Eisenhower Apartment on the top floor of the Castle, which can accommodate up to twelve guests in a private country house style and is the perfect location for a honeymoon or luxury executive retreat.

Accommodation

For the more intimate Wedding celebration, the Eisenhower Apartment can be hired for Exclusive Use.

The Eisenhower Apartment was General Eisenhower’s Scottish retreat from 1945 until his death in 1969. He stayed here on several occasions, once as President.

Culzean, a romantic 18th Century Castle in a spectacular clifftop setting, is surrounded by nearly 600 acres of stunning countryside, parkland and gardens, with miles of woodland walks, cliff paths and shoreline.

The Apartment’s six bedrooms offer accommodation for up to 12 guests. The circular Drawing Room and elegant Dining Room offer stunning panoramic views over the Firth of Clyde towards the Island of Arran.

The Eisenhower Dining Room can seat a maximum of 24 guests, at either 2 tables of 12 or 3 tables of eight. A maximum number of 20 guests can be seated at one central.

The ‘Ailsa Suite’ has a magnificent four-poster double bed and en-suite bathroom, with views over the Carriage Circle, Clocktower Courtyard and dramatic Ayrshire coastline. With its warm colours and dimmed lights, what better place for the Bride and Groom to sip on one last glass of champagne!

The Ailsa Suite

The Ailsa Suite takes its name from the title ‘Marquis of Ailsa’ which was bestowed upon the 12th Earl of Cassillis by King William IV. The name ‘Ailsa’ is derived from ‘Ailsa Craig’, a volcanic island located in the Firth of Clyde, which still belongs to the current Marquis of Ailsa.

The Ailsa Suite features a queen size four poster bed, in a large bedroom with a comfortable seating area and a spacious en-suite bathroom.

The view from the large, bright windows in both the bedroom and en-suite bathroom is of the Carriage Ring, Clocktower Courtyard and a splendid partial sea view.

The Ailsa Suite is very popular with guests planning a romantic getaway.

The Dining Room

This elegant Dining Room is private, for use only by resident guests. With stunning views over both the Fountain Court Garden to the south and the Firth of Clyde towards ‘Ailsa Craig’ to the west, where better to relax over a delicious meal, freshly prepared by our Chef.

For an ‘exclusive use’ booking, or a family gathering, the large formal dining table can seat up to 18 guests in comfort. Otherwise, guests dine at their own individual tables during their stay.

Breakfast is served from 8.00am until 10.00am.

Dinner, three courses priced at £35.00 per guest, per night, is served from 7.00pm until 8.30pm (seating times). A Children’s Menu is available, priced at £15.00 per child. per night. Please note, a prior booking of one week is required for evening dining.
